How does a gematria calculator work?

Gematria is an ancient tool used in the Jewish mystical tradition to uncover deeper meanings in names, words, and phrases. It is based on assigning numerical values to letters in the Hebrew alphabet. Today, many people use a gematria calculator to calculate a numerical value associated with a word or phrase, which can then be used as a basis for further exploration.

The letters of the Hebrew alphabet are each assigned a number between one and 400. The numerical order of the letters follows their order within the alphabet, with aleph being assigned one, bet two and so forth all the way up to tav being assigned 400. To calculate the gematria for a word or phrase one must add together all of the numerical values assigned to each letter contained within it. For example, if we take the Hebrew word "ברוך" (blessed), which is made up of its three letters ברוך(bet-reish-vet) we can calculate its gematria by totaling Bet (2) + Reish (200) + Vet (6) = 208. This value is then used as part of various methods used in research involving gematria and revelation of mystic teachings.

In addition to such manual calculations, modern tools now enable us to efficiently do this using an online Gematria calculator in order to produce the results very quickly and conveniently without having to manually add up each letter's numerical value. These calculators have options allowing you to type out either words or phrases in English or Hebrew – along with variations in which you can specify whether or not you'd like your results displayed using traditional values like sofit (final form) letters instead. The result is then generated once you click on 'calculate' and taking out any manual calculation hassle from your end!
